What Are Biostimulators And How Do They Work?

Are you bothered by lines and wrinkles and loss of facial volume due to aging or genetics? If so, biostimulators may be a great treatment option. Unlike other treatments that simply restore lost volume with hyaluronic acid, biostimulators actually trigger your body's natural production of collagen for natural-looking and prolonged results.

Biostimulators are compounds that are injected into the deep layer of the skin called dermis. Unlike dermal fillers which simply inject volume, biostimulators work by stimulating new tissue growth, helping the skin to naturally produce its own volume. The Biostimulators we offer at Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa are Sculptra and Radiesse Hyperdilute.

      Sculptra

Sculptra is a FDA-approved injectable treatment to help gradually replace lost collagen. It is formulated with Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) a biocompatible material and sourced from sugarcane to help restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin to smooth facial wrinkles. Rather than an "overnight" effect, Sculptra is intended to be performed as a series of up to three injection appointments and could achieve results lasting for up to two full years.

      Radiesse Hyperdilute

Radiesse Hyperdilute is an injectable filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA. These particles integrate into the skin to create a scaffold, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This results in the smoothing of lines and the promotion of a renewed skin structure for natural-looking results. Radiesse Hyperdilute is intended to be performed as a series of three to five injection appointments. Radiesse Hyperdilute results last about 15 months.

Some Common Questions about Sculptra and Radiesse Hyperdilute

Is Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa The Best In New Mexico For Sculptra Injections?

Yes, our highly trained cosmetic injector nurses are all recently trained in the new Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera Sculptra Injection Technique. Our co-owner and retired master cosmetic injector recently trained directly with Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to learn this new innovative technique that constitutes Sculptra Aesthetic at a higher concentration and specific injection point deposits. She brought these techniques back to our office to train our nurses to perform at this master level. This has been a game changer for our guests as far as delivering superior results. In fact, Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa is ranked as the #1 provider of Sculptra Aesthetic in New Mexico by Galderma as of January 2024.

      Why Would I Need Sculptra?

The face often loses volume with age, primarily due to a natural decline in healthy, fatty tissues. Along with the normal aging process, illness, dramatic weight loss, and genetic disposition can also contribute to these changes. Unfortunately, a thinning dermal layer can add years to the appearance. Decreasing volume may result in hollow areas under the eyes, boney facial contours, and sunken cheeks. The appearance may take on an exhausted, frail look, as the stores of vital facial volume are depleted. Sculptra is a great option to replace this lost volume or enhance this volume without having to have dermal fillers injected every 4-12 months.

      How Long Does Sculptra Last?

A US clinical study showed results lasting up to 25 months for the treatment of the face. The study tested both men and women with skin tones ranging from pale to dark skin.

Results will appear gradually and will depend on wrinkle depth, volume loss, or skin elasticity before treatment. Clients will typically need a series of injections over a few months to see the best results. Patients will see peak results about three months after their final appointment. Yearly maintenance is typically recommended and should be maintained for prolonged effectiveness.

      How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra (PLLA) is a bio-stimulating treatment. Sculptra works by addressing the underlying cause of aging skin from loss of collagen. Once injected in the face (or buttocks), Sculptra stimulates the natural growth of new collagen. This leads to restoration of facial volume over time and dramatic improvement of the skin texture. Results are natural and become noticeable after 2-3 sessions (based on individual concerns).

What Should I Expect With My Sculptra Treatment?

Your provider will ensure your treatment will be performed with the utmost care and comfort using numbing agents. Sculptra is injected utilizing cannulas (similar to what is used for IV's) with the new advanced method and the constitution is the new formulation by Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera for superior results. The treatment is very comfortable as our protocols manage comfort during all of our treatments. Your treatment will last approximately 60-90 minutes and at the end of the treatment we will demonstrate the 5-5-5 technique for facial massage which will be for five minutes. Your after care will require your participation in performing the same facial massage for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days. This after care massage is crucial so that the biostimulating microparticles stay evenly distributed and start stimulating collagen.

Is There Any Downtime With Sculptra or Radiesse Hyperdilute?

You can expect to have mild soreness and possible slight swelling at the injection sites for about 3-5 days post treatment as the biostimulators incorporate into the tissue. As with any treatment that utilizes needles, there is always a risk of bruising. We take every measure possible to prevent creating a bruise. However, there are tiny capillaries that are not visible to the eye and are at risk anytime a needle enters the skin.

When Can I Expect Results With Sculptra?

Subtle results can typically be seen within a month of receiving a Sculptra injection, results will continue to build as collagen starts to form and peak results typically show at 6 months.

What Areas Can You Treat With Sculptra?

The FDA's newly expanded approval of Sculptra for use on fine lines and wrinkles allows for more versatility and a wider range of treatments. Some include:

      • Face treatments focus on the anchor points: Temples, Cheeks, Jawline, Nasal folds, Marionettes
      • Buttocks

What Is The Difference Between Sculptra or Radiesse Hyperdilute and Dermal Filler?

Sculptra and Radiesse Hyperdilute are both bio-stimulating to the body to produce collagen or collagen and elastin and increase volume where signs of aging are apparent. Dermal Filler is made from bioidentical hyaluronic acid which is heated then pressed through a type of sive that produces a specific particulate shape. Depending on the shape and density of the hyaluronic acid determines the volumizing capacity or G-Prime scale of the dermal filler. Your body will metabolize the hyaluronic acid filler over time. The amount of time it takes a person to break down dermal filler has many variables such as G-Prime of the dermal filler and the age and health of the patient.

      What Is Radiesse Hyperdilute?

While it sounds complicated, hyperdiluted Radiesse is simply Radiesse that has been thinned out with a mixture of saline solution and Lidocaine. This diluted mixture is injected into areas where the skin is showing sagging skin and creping texture. The calcium hydroxyapatite molecules in Radiesse then stimulate the body to build new collagen and elastin. Radiesse Hyperdilute is totally safe and because of the thinning to obtain better spread in the area we are treating, there is no risk of an adverse event with injections such as occlusions or nodules.

What can Radiesse Hyperdilute Help With?

All areas can be done, but some new interesting areas to consider are the decolletage (chest wall), necklines for thinning skin around the neck, cellulitic dimples of the thighs and buttocks, giving minor volume to the buttock for better shape, knee lines from lax skin with aging, stretch marks, and laxity around the arms.
